2017. That’s when I found out I was MEANT to be a Program Manager.

But until then? I had no clue until my boss told me I was a DAMN good one. 

Let’s back up.

In 2017, I was a Customer Success Manager at Pinterest, managing clients, running ads, and telling teams what to do (check out my full career history here.)

That same year, I raised my hand to run a big program. This project had high leadership visibility, was extremely cross-functional, and was a company priority.

A few months later?

I was crushing it and landed my DREAM program manager job at LinkedIn (without the ‘official’ experience). 

Here’s why I love being a program manager:

1. I learned how to lead with impact vs authority. You don’t need the title to be a leader. Simply taking ownership, coming up with a strategy, and bringing people together are real influences. 

2. It’s rewarding to drive a project from start to finish. I hated other jobs because they felt limiting. As a PM, I thrived in driving a project from idea to strategy, launch, and close. 

3. My work is the lifeblood of my team. I’ve had jobs that were thankless and boring. When I became a PM, I knew my work mattered. Teams praised me because I made their jobs better. You are the glue.

There are endless other reasons why it’s a great career path.
